Hello TSMS Families,
Welcome back and happy new year! Hope your holidays were just right.
Here's the news of the week:
SLT...
Tonight Tuesday, January 5 at 5:30pm is the next School Leadership Team meeting. All members of the school community are welcome.
EARLY DISMISSAL...
Next Wednesday, January 13 is the next Early Dismissal day for professional development. Students will be dismissed at 1:45pm after lunch. As always on Early Dismissal days, there will be NO After School. If you would like your child to stay at school until 3:25pm, please contact Shirley at slee at tsmsonline or 347-563-5303.
MLK...
Monday, January 18 is Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. All schools will be closed citywide.
PTA...
Wednesday, January 20 at 6pm is the next PTA meeting. On the agenda is Navigating the Emotional Lives of Middle Schoolers, a conversation facilitated by our Co-Dean of Students, Adam Weinstock. Hope you'll join us.
6TH GRADE OVERNIGHT...
The 6th grade overnight trip to Frost Valley is coming up soon-- at the end of January. 6th grade families should have received a letter about it in the Progress Report mailing. Permission slips will be going home as well. Please remember to submit your trip payment as soon as possible, either online at tsmsonline.org/donate.php or sent in to your child's advisor. If you need to break it up into partial payments, that is totally fine too. The date is coming up fast (Jan 27-28) so just be prompt.
7TH GRADE ICE SKATING...
Tuesday, January 12 is the 7th grade Ice Skating trip to Wollman Rink in Prospect Park-- weather permitting. 6th and 8th grade dates will be in February. Permission slips went out yesterday. All trips will be leaving school each day at 11 am and will be returning no later than 3:30 pm. To help cover rink costs, we are requesting $5 with your slip. Also, students should come to school with a bag lunch on the day of their trip and dressed appropriately to spend the day outdoors. If it is bitter crazy cold or unseasonably warm, the trip will have to be postponed though. We'll let you know.
AFTER SCHOOL...
Monday, January 11 to Friday, January 15 will be an Add/Drop period where students will have the option of switching clubs. There will be a couple of new activities (yearbook! literary journal!) but for the most part, things will remain the same. The new session of Theater will start Tuesday, January 19New schedules and registration forms will be available in room 337 this Friday, January 8. If we do not hear from you during Add/Drop week, we will assume that your child will be keeping their current schedule. We are trying to keep as little interruption as possible, so clubs and activities will continue during Add/Drop week too.
BOOKS AROUND THE HOUSE...
It's time once more to check under the bed for TSMS classroom library books. In the sofa? Behind the fish tank? Inside the light fixture? There may be some books hiding out at home and we would love to have them returned to our classroom libraries so other students can read them too. Thank you!
That's it for now.
All best,
Devan
