Good afternoon,
Since reopening for in-school instruction on February 22, more and more families have expressed interest in having their children attend school in-person. Last week I discussed this growing interest with the superintendent and she reminded me that the DOE has not officially opened an additional opt-in window. Nevertheless, she encouraged me to create a 5-day-a-week schedule for "priority students" while keeping our 2 cohort model for everyone else. The goal here would be to help our most struggling students as well as open as many in-person spots as possible.
The "priority students group" will be made up of the following students:
Students who have an IEP and are below 75% in attendance and academic mastery for the year.
Students with IEPs and ELL students
Students who do not have IEPs, but have below 75% attendance overall and below 75% mastery in core classes.
On March 15, only the CURRENT in-person students who are in the priority groups will begin attending 5 days a week. This means that most students will remain on the cohort schedule. If your child is in one of the above priority groups, you will receive a form to complete from Mr. Masterson tomorrow morning (3/5/21).
During the week of March 8, we will send our final opt-in form (via email) to request in-person instruction. After placing students from the priority groups, we will place our general education students in seats based on availability on April 5. Completing this form does NOT guarantee your child will have access to in-person learning. You will hear from us via email on or before March 19th to indicate your acceptance. If you DO NOT hear from us by then, this means we do not have space at the current time.
Our timeline for phasing in these changes will be as follows,
March 5 = 5-days-a-week request form sent to priority group families ALREADY attending in-person
Week of March 8 = Last opt-in survey for the community
March 15 = Students ALREADY attending in-person who fall in the 3 priority groups begin 5 days a week of in-person learning
April 5 = New opt-in students begin in their assigned group or cohort where we have seats available.
I understand that there are many moving parts to this plan and I will be dedicating our next School Leadership meeting on March 9 to providing more clarity and answering questions.

Desde su reapertura para la instrucción en la escuela el 22 de febrero, cada vez más familias han expresado interés en que sus hijos asistan a la escuela en persona. La semana pasada hablé de este creciente interés con el superintendente y me recordó que el DOE no ha abierto oficialmente una ventana de suscripción adicional. Sin embargo, me animó a crear un horario de 5 días a la semana para los "estudiantes prioritarios" mientras mantenía nuestro modelo de cohorte 2. El objetivo aquí sería ayudar a nuestros estudiantes con más dificultades, así como abrir tantos lugares en persona como sea posible.
El "grupo de estudiantes prioritarios" estará formado por los siguientes estudiantes,
